Protecting ex situ

This involves propagating and cultivating selected species of vascular plants in the genetic bank of KRNAP Administration or in vitro. The aim is to foster 'replacement populations' of the species as a source for potentially restoring native populations in the wild, founding replacement stocks within areas for the purpose of introduction and additional research. Simultaneously, a seed bank is being maintained as concerns the seeds of selected critically endangered species of vascular plants, these stored at low temperatures. The management of this plant gene pool incorporates a gene pool orchard comprising old varieties of fruit trees from the Krkonoše Mountains in the territory of the monastery garden in Vrchlabi.
