Taking care of non-forested ecosystems

In all four vegetation zones throughout the Krkonoše Mountains, there is a variation in the non-forested ecosystems – from wetlands and meadows at low altitudes as well as on the mountain slopes and stretching up to the lichen tundra on the upper ridges. Some originated merely through the laws of nature, whilst others have come into existence only in the centuries the land has been used economically by humans. Therefore, if one is to maintain the great diversity of species for which the mountains are famed, managing some of them is essential.
