Climate
The Krkonoše Mountains are actually the highest Hercynian mountains, extending to just above the 50th parallel north. They form a natural mountain wall face and have weathered the wet and cold western winds flowing from the Atlantic for millennia. This is manifest in the high rainfall and snowfall experienced as well as low temperatures. Therefore, the mountains' climate is more humid, colder and harsher than that of the Tatra or Šumava ranges, possessing a rather oceanic character. In addition to distinct turns of season, weather in Krkonoše widely varies within short periods of time.
