Primary mountain spruce forests

Preserved in hard-to-access places within the montane zone and along the alpine tree line, e.g. in the valley heads of Mumlavský, Labský, Dlouhý, Modrý, Obří and Jelení důl.

Significant plant species: Ferns (alpine lady fern Athyrium distentifolium), male-fern (Dryopteris filix-mas) and deer fern Blechnum spicant); grasses (hairy reedgrass Calamagrostis villosa and wavy hairgrass Avenella flexuosa) and bryophytes; montane flood-meadows alongside streams and spring sites in forests contain plants like chervil (Chaerophyllum hirsutum), (Cicerbita alpine), garden monkshood (Aconitum plicatum), white butterbur (Petasites albus), large bitter-cress (Cardamine amara) and others.

Significant animal species: A gastropod (Semilimax kotulae); collembolan giant springtail (Tetrodontophora bielanensis); European bark beetle (Ips typographus), (Carabus sylvestris) and (Carabus linnaei); (Ischyropsalis hellwigi); Tengmalm's owl (Aegolius funereus); goldcrest (Regulus regulus); coal tit (Parus ater) and crested tit (Parus cristatus); red crossbill (Loxia curvirostra); jay (Garrulus glandarius); spotted nutcracker (Nucifraga caryocatactes); alpine shrew (Sorex alpinus); bank vole (Clethrionomys glareolus); yellow-necked field mouse (Apodemus flavicollis); red deer (Cervus elaphus).
